What Distinguishes The V4?
The Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4 represents genuine advancement over its predecessor. It provides an 8-pin interface for an optional external GNSS module. Increased transmit power extends practical range, while expanded memory supports more sophisticated MeshCore firmware features.
The ESP32-S3R2 processor and 16MB flash provide headroom for future firmware development. Solar charging support opens possibilities for semi-permanent outdoor deployments without complex power management.
Users who found the V3 capable but wanted optional positioning support or greater range may appreciate these improvements. A GNSS module must be purchased separately.

Key Improvements Over V3
Transmit power jumps from 21dBm to 27dBm - a substantial increase that translates to noticeably better range, particularly in challenging urban environments with buildings and obstacles attenuating signals.
The standard V4 board has no integrated GPS. Position reporting requires a separately available GNSS module connected to its 8-pin interface. The additional PSRAM supports firmware features requiring more memory.
