Help expand the network

Additional participants and repeaters create a more robust network. Here is how you can contribute:

πŸ—Ό

Deploy a repeater

Have a rooftop, balcony, or attic with clear visibility? Ideal! A repeater can dramatically extend network range.

  • βœ“ Range up to 10+ miles in open terrain
  • βœ“ Available 24/7 for all network participants
  • βœ“ One-time investment from approximately $60
  • βœ“ Minimal power consumption

Become an active participant

Even without hosting a repeater, your participation strengthens the network. Additional devices enable additional connections.

  • βœ“ Strengthen the mesh through participation
  • βœ“ Test coverage in your neighborhood
  • βœ“ Portable hardware from approximately $60
  • βœ“ No subscription charges or ongoing costs

Frequent questions about the network

What range can be achieved?
This is a mesh network - messages can automatically traverse repeaters. Communication between New York and Philadelphia, or further, may be possible provided repeaters exist along the route. Range depends on elevation and antenna quality (20-25 miles achievable from elevated positions).
Can I use the network without nearby repeaters?
Yes! Direct communication with other participants within range works independently. Range varies with elevation and antenna - from several hundred yards at ground level to 20-25 miles from elevated positions. However, repeaters substantially improve coverage. Consider hosting one yourself!
How can I check coverage in my area?
The interactive map displays current activity. You can also inquire in the community about active participants in your region. Alternatively, acquire hardware and conduct your own tests.
What does hosting a repeater cost?
A repeater costs approximately $60-100 as a one-time purchase. Power consumption is negligible (roughly $1-2 annually). No subscriptions or recurring charges. You strengthen the network whilst ensuring your own connectivity.
Can the network fail entirely?
Individual repeaters may go offline (due to power issues or hardware problems), but the mesh network can automatically discover alternative routes. More repeaters means greater resilience. Coverage varies by location and depends on volunteer participation.

Help RegionMesh expand in your region

Every repeater matters. Every participant helps. Together we build independent community communication across America. RegionMesh is a community project. Coverage depends on volunteer participation and varies by location. Not a replacement for emergency services - always dial 911 in emergencies.
