About RegionMesh
A community initiative building mesh radio networks across the United States.
Who We Are
RegionMesh started with a practical question: what happens when cellular networks and internet aren't available? Whether due to outages, disasters, congestion, or remote locations — sometimes traditional networks simply aren't an option. We're building alternatives.
We're a community of radio enthusiasts, makers, and people interested in preparedness — all helping build and maintain MeshCore mesh communication networks across the United States. The network is decentralized — no single point of failure, no company in control.
RegionMesh is entirely community-run. There is no corporate entity, no investors, and no revenue. Everyone involved contributes because they believe communities should have alternative communication options.
What We're Building
A community mesh radio network that works when traditional infrastructure doesn't — or isn't available. When cell towers are overloaded, when internet is down, when you're in a remote area with no coverage — RegionMesh can provide a way to communicate with family, neighbors, and your community.
Infrastructure-Independent
No reliance on cell towers, internet providers, or the power grid.
Community-Built
Every repeater is deployed by a community member. Every participant strengthens the network.
Free to Use
Buy a device once, use the network forever. No subscriptions, no fees.
What We Believe
-
✓
Preparedness: Having alternative communication options before you need them.
-
✓
Accessibility: Mesh communication shouldn't require technical expertise. If you can pair Bluetooth headphones, you can use RegionMesh.
-
✓
Community: Every repeater benefits the whole area. We build networks together.
-
✓
Privacy: Private messages use end-to-end encryption. Your conversations stay yours.
-
✓
Affordability: Entry-level devices cost around $50. Alternative communication shouldn't be expensive.
How It Started
RegionMesh began when a group of radio enthusiasts realized that LoRa mesh technology had become affordable and accessible. The hardware was inexpensive, the software was open-source — the missing piece was awareness and coordination.
We chose MeshCore as our preferred protocol because it's efficient and handles busy networks well. RegionMesh exists to help people across the United States set up mesh communication before they need it.
The Network Today
The RegionMesh network continues to grow:
Coverage varies by location and depends on community participation. Check the map to see what's active near you.
Get Involved
RegionMesh grows through participation. You can help by:
- → Deploying a repeater — even a small solar-powered one extends network coverage
- → Getting a device and becoming part of the network
- → Helping newcomers get set up
- → Sharing with others who might be interested in mesh communication
Ready to Get Started?
Join communities across the United States building mesh radio networks. RegionMesh is a community project — coverage varies by location. Not a replacement for 911 emergency services.
