What Is RegionMesh?

A community mesh radio network that works when traditional networks are unavailable.

Communication Without Infrastructure

RegionMesh is a community-built mesh radio network across the United States. When cellular networks are unavailable — due to outages, congestion, or remote locations — RegionMesh provides an alternative way to communicate with family, neighbors, and your community.

The technology behind it is MeshCore — an efficient mesh protocol running on compact LoRa radio devices.

No cell towers needed. No internet required. No grid power necessary. Just a pocket-sized device and your smartphone.

How Do You Get Started?

1

LoRa Radio Device

Get a mesh radio compatible with MeshCore (starting around $50)

2

Download the App

Install the free MeshCore app on your Android or iPhone

3

Pair Your Device

Connect via Bluetooth — same process as wireless headphones

4

Ready When Needed

Your mesh communication is set up — test it, then keep it charged

RegionMesh Versus MeshCore — What's the Difference?

RegionMesh

The Network: RegionMesh is the US community initiative building and coordinating mesh radio networks. We provide resources, help with setup, and make the technology accessible.

MeshCore

The Technology: MeshCore is the open-source protocol that makes devices communicate. It handles message routing through the network of radios and repeaters.

In short: RegionMesh = the US community network, MeshCore = the technology we use.

When Would You Use RegionMesh?

Situations where alternative communication is valuable

Power Outages

When blackouts take down cell towers and internet

🎪

Network Congestion

Events, emergencies, or situations that overload cellular networks

🏔️

Remote Areas

Backcountry, mountains, or anywhere without cell coverage

🏘️

Community Coordination

Neighborhood communication, events, or group activities

How Does It Work?

You send text messages through the MeshCore network. These don't travel via the internet — they hop directly between devices using radio waves on the 915 MHz band.

When your message can't reach the recipient directly, repeaters relay it onward. Community members deploy these repeaters across the United States to extend network coverage, and Repeater Locations Needed shows where more help is useful.

The network intelligently finds routes between devices, ensuring messages arrive even when some paths are blocked.

The RegionMesh Network

Community members across the United States are deploying repeaters to provide mesh radio coverage.

RegionMesh helps people set up mesh communication before they need it. We make it accessible to everyone, regardless of technical background.

Check the coverage map to see what's active in your area.

🎯

Community-Built Coverage

Coverage depends on community participation and varies by location. The more people join, the stronger the network becomes.

Mesh communication, built by communities.
